The incidence rate of thrombus is higher among elders than average adult patients. Whats more, some factors such as trauma caused by some surgery procedures and post-operative immobilization in orthopedic patients may also increase the risk of thrombus. Therefore, the incidence of thrombotic event is very high in the geriatric orthopedics, which includes deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism and may cause serious hospital death. It is necessary to take some thromboprophylaxis interventions to decrease the risk of thrombus. By this paper, we aimed to explore the risk factors of thrombus and appropriate prophylaxis among elderly orthopedic patients, and provide guidance to the clinical thromboprophylaxis.
